To prevent lightning damage, a lightning protection device (with choke and spark gap) must be installed on non-combustible material on the outside of the building before a fence supply line is introduced into a building. The lightning protection device must not be connected to the operating earth on the electric fence device. If a building lightning protection device is present, the earth wire of the lightning protection device should be connected to the earth on this system. Otherwise, a separate earthing system is needed for the lightning protection device.
